Crunch Week Reminders

Dear Honor Choir Families,

Thank you so much for all the hard work and positive attitudes throughout the last few weeks. Things can get very stressful when we put on a show in such a short time period. We are all volunteers and we appreciate the patience and kindness that come along with all of you to each rehearsal.

Crunch week reminders:

Dress Rehearsals Wednesday and Thursday 12:35-3:00pm. Mic check is at 12:15. Always be earlier than mic check to have time to carefully get those mics on.

Friday, Call time is 9:00am. in room 49. Toes parked on the edge of the stage at 8:45 for mic check. (again be there earlier than this to get your mic on). Once your mic is checked you will go to room 49 where you will begin warming up with Mr. Thompson. Mic check for Friday evening show is 6:10. Call time is 6:30 in room 49.

The high school will be a having football game Friday night on campus. Please plan on coming a little early to find parking.

Saturday mic check is 4:10 with a 4:30 call time. Eat before you come. Bring a snack and a water bottle for between performances.

There had been some parents that thought there was a 1:00 show on Friday. There is no 1:00 show. Only what is scheduled for morning shows and the evening show. There will be pizza and lunch provided for the choir kids after the Friday morning shows. Do not eat in your uniforms please. We have had some ties returned with food marks, so please do not eat in your informs. Please review Ali Miller’s email for any questions of concerns for that lunch.

Thank you all again. It is going to be a fun great week! 🙂

Honor Choir Cast Party

Dear Honor Choir Parents,

We are so excited about the progress our kids have made over the past few weeks. It is our tradition to celebrate with a cast party after the completion of the school shows. This year, that will be Friday, September 18th. The choir provides pizza and we ask parents to help by donating other items. I have spoken with many of you already and appreciate your willingness to help! If I missed you, please email me if you’re able to bring something. We could still use a couple bags of Cuties, several boxes of Capri Suns or small water bottles, cookies, napkins, and plates.

In order to serve families as well as we can, please read the following and respond by Monday:

We are compiling a list of students with food allergies. Please let us know if your student is gluten free as we will count them in for gluten free pizza. If they are not completely gluten free all the time, please don’t select this as it is more expensive.

If you or your other children, who are not enrolled in Honor Choir, would like to have lunch with us, please let me know the total number. We request a $2 per person donation for the year to cover the cost. There is no charge for Honor Choir students.

Thanks again for all you do to support your students and Honor Choir!

Wizard of Oz

Hello Everyone,

What a wonderful week of practices.  The kids have been working hard and all their work is paying off! They were able to practice the show from start to finish on Friday and Wow did it look great. Since we are getting closer to show time there are a couple of things I would like to let you know.

Please continue to promote the show and get the word out. We have sold about half of the tickets for the Friday’s show but there are still lots of tickets for the Saturday shows, especially for the 7pm show. It would be great to have 3 sold out shows. Remember that all tickets and money need to be returned this Friday, September 11.
Kara will be at practices all week to help you with your ticket needs.

Costumes, costumes, costumes! Mrs. Waters and her crew of volunteer parents have been working very hard to get all the costumes ready for the kids. As they finish costumes they will be handing them out.  To help the kids know what they are wearing, I have created a document (Oz Costumes) that explains what everyone needs, what they are responsible to bring from home and what costume is needed for each scene. Please go over it with your students and help them organize everything. Thanks!

Over the next few days please start collecting what they need and getting a bag/container ready that they can use to hold everything. You may want to have two bags just in case they are changing costumes in more then one place. Please, remember to label every item with their name (on masking tape) where it won’t be seen. Many times the back stage crew finds costume pieces not in bags and this will make it easier for them to return them to their owner.

It looks like there are going to be a few quick costume changes. To help cut down on change time, students can change costumes in the lobby and back breeze way next to the bathrooms. We will have volunteer parents chaperoning and helping with costume changes backstage, in the lobby, and the breezeway. Please make sure your students know that they will not be able to change costumes in the side hallways next to the bleachers! It would be very distracting to the audience if they saw or heard the kids changing. =)   Please take a few minutes and go over the the order of their costume changes and help them decide the best place for them to change costumes.

Lastly, I want to say thank you to all the parents! You have been such a great help getting all the kids prepared, to practice on time, and lending a hand in every way you can! Without every one of you doing what you do this show would not be such a wonderful experience for the kids!

If you have any questions please let us know!

Thank you,

Kelly

Note from Kristi

Hello Honor Choir families.

I’m writing to ask for your help in filling the auditorium with huge, cheering audiences for these hard working kiddos. They are so dedicated, and they are rehearsing tirelessly, with smiles on their faces! It’s up to us parents to give them three sold out performances!

Attached below is a full sheet flyer that is great to post at your/your spouse’s work place or anywhere in the community. I have found that the vast majority of businesses are happy to let me post our flyer in their window or community board if I just walk in and ask. But I simply can’t cover the county by myself. Please print out a few (or ask me, and I’ll be happy to print them and bring to rehearsal), and post them all about.

Also attached is the 1/4 sheet flyer which is a nice size to hand out to friends, neighbors, and extended family. If you have any trouble printing out the files, please let me know!

And, of course, the flyers are on the website: http://hickmanhonorchoir.org/. Scroll to the very bottom and click on PARENTS. Once on the parents’ page the links are on the right side under Wizard/SRO information.

Thank you so much!

Uniforms

Dear Honor Choir Families,

We are getting ready to hand out choir uniforms for our newbies and growing kids. If you are a new member of choir, we need to check out uniform pieces to you. For the girls that would be a blue blouse and black skirt. For the boys it is a blue tie. Honor Choir provides these items, but remember to reference your folder from the parent meeting to get any other items needed. You can also see the Honor Choir website for that information. There are sales on at Kohl’s and various other stores on many of the items you need. Don’t wait until the last minute to get these!

If you need to exchange anything because your child has grown over the summer let me know and we will do an exchange for a larger size.

The uniform will be worn for the SRO portion of the program. Black leggings and black long sleeve shirts for the girls and black slacks with black long sleeve shirts for the boys in Wizard of Oz. These are your “under clothes”. It helps keep things modest backstage.  All other costuming information is given from Shelley and she will inform as needed.

Thank you all so much for making these shows a wonderful experience for our children!
